This tradition started in 1992, continued yearly through 2004, then went on was a long pause, and picked back up again from 2022 to now.

I have three rules when conceiving of each card - it has to be a New York City scene, I play a role in the scene, and there has to be writing intrinsic to the scene that I change to say Happy Holidays.

The 4th unofficial rule is that “holiday card” is a loose term - it’s for whatever holiday is around the corner from whenever you receive it. And yet, I go through the motions of fooling myself every year that this year I will get them out before THE Holidays. Even though, for this year's card, our first shoot date was already too late to hit that mark (January 3, 2025) and then our second shoot date was in March, I still had high hopes to get this year’s card out “early” (before May?) – and yet, as the saying goes, “Life Be Lifing.” And so it is December.

Let’s just say that this is the latest (or earliest) I have ever sent out a card.  I will let you decide if I am redefining what it means to be fashionably late or if I’m setting new standards for being fabulously early.  In either case, this year's card is now standing in for both 2024 and 2025. I've basically lapped myself.

A big shout out to my friend, co-conspirator, and photographer Geoffrey Croft who photographs these cards year after year and who was onboard yet-again this year. Click on the about page to read more about our decades-long collaboration.

More big shout outs to my fiance Dave and my friend Rachel -  both of whom photographed for me when I was compelled to go for additional setups.

And one more big shout out to my niece Dalyla Hopp who became my holiday card assistant and took on lots of the tedious tasks like rubber stamping the inside of the cards, trimming the sides of each photo and mounting them on the card stock.

Last big shout out to Jack at Quick Color Photo Lab for his skill, patience and good humor as we sit side by side at his computer monitor making prints.
